PdfCraft
An offline PDF workbench for reading, forms and page organisation.
Adobe Acrobat serves people working on PDF editing, forms and document organisation. These independent projects explore parts of that workflow with documented AI assistance. They are candidates to evaluate, not guaranteed drop-in replacements.

Switchable workflow: Replace a limited part of the incumbent workflow: reading, annotating, filling forms and rearranging or combining PDF pages. Source
Existing-content editing is unreliable, particularly CJK/RTL. Office conversion/layout fidelity, full XFA, long-term signature validation and professional print/preflight remain incomplete. Fuzzing still finds crashes or hangs on hostile files; inspect saved copies. Capabilities are source-documented, not independently app-tested. Project source
Compare Adobe Acrobat vs PdfCraftSwitchable workflow: Replace Acrobat for ordinary PDF text corrections, form filling, annotations and page organisation, with saved PDF output. Source
Text changes work one line at a time without paragraph reflow. XFA and DRM PDFs are unsupported. OCR supports English/German; certificate checks are offline without revocation/trust-list checks. Redaction is beta: inspect saved output. Installers are unsigned; macOS/Windows behavior needs real-device testing. Features are source-documented, not independently runtime-tested. Project source
Compare Adobe Acrobat vs Nib-EUse the step-by-step switching checklist
Match your actual workflow against the documented scope and limitations above. PDF viewing is only one part of the workflow. Test forms, signatures, OCR, redaction and conversion separately. None of these listings is a promise of feature parity.
Each app links to attributable evidence of AI-assisted development. A verified contribution badge means a public commit credits an AI coauthor; a maker claim means the owner states AI was used. Neither establishes that every line was AI-generated or reviewed.
PdfCraft, Nib-E are documented as free to use. Check the license linked for each project. Running infrastructure can still incur costs. Open source alone is not evidence of AI authorship.
For Adobe Acrobat, focus on forms, page management, office conversion. Keep originals, try disposable copies and inspect round-trip exports. Missing comparison facts are unknown.
